This is the third book in the Weapon Mythos from the Ever War saga, an action and adventure Fantasy series. Ferret (once known as Jonn) is on the run after absconding his duties to the 7th Realm, and Honest (once known as Gade) is in pursuit, keen to interrogate all the men from Southeby.
As the 7th and 5th Realms go to war at the northern border a massive force of Trolls have banded together and lay siege to Southeby. The people of Southeby are ignored by the capitol and must fend for themselves, ultimately deciding whether to fight to the last or take their chances and escape. Meanwhile a far more ancient evil, long thought defeated, is taking advantage of the chaos to achieve the power he had once been denied.

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading all three books in Mr. Hawthorne's The Ever War trilogy. I plan to reread them soon knowing one pass isn't enough to peel back the textured layers of character and plot he so skillfully weaves into these pages. He's a true artist. Introducing you to his mind's world is a treat few have the diligence, deliberate nature, and grasp of pros to put forth in such a compelling and clearly tone. He's a talent I want to see at his desk more often. Brimming with immediate gratification, the smartphone games of our time are a shallow and fleeing joy compared to the deep satisfaction Mr. Hawthorne invites us to earn by reading the books into which he's poured years of his life.
I fell in love with this author's first book and this one is just as amazing. I found myself going through a range of emotions while reading it...shock definitely being one of them. It still holds strong to it's fantasy style and even gives off a steampunk feel at times. Any lover of fantasy books needs to read this series! Book 3...here I come!!
